“From out of the shadows of the past, the spirit of Japan's Feudal Ninja has re-emerged in the form of the Kurai Kotori Clan. This Modern Warrior Tradition is dedicated to preserving a variety of classical fighting arts. This is a difficult task because, over the years, many martial systems have discarded some of the more archaic aspects of training, believing they have no place in today's society. At Warrior Quest International, our arts are taught in their entirety. No skill, no matter how obscure, is overlooked. We believe that in order to embrace the true meaning of warrior-hood, the student must delve into every aspect of training. This quest leads teachers and students alike into a realm where the knowledge of the past, provides the key to the future.”

WARRIOR QUEST
This site is designed to be a gateway to learning about the Modern Warrior Tradition of the Kurai Kotori Ryu (Clan of the Dark Lone Bird). This system is the inspiration of Mark Steven Grove, the end result of countless years of in-depth study and research that has led to the creation of a new system of military arts that are based on the classical fighting methods, strategies and philosophies adhered to by the Samurai and Ninja families of ancient Japan. All the writing contained on this website are excerpts from Mr. Grove’s training manuals entitled “The Arcanum of Ninja Tactics”, which he wrote in the mid to late 80’s. This work is original and may not be reproduced without written consent from Warrior Quest International.

THE KURAI KOTORI TRADITION
The Kurai Kotori Tradition is a huge system that has over 30 Primary Arts that house more than 150 Sub-Arts, making it one of the most in-depth styles available throughout the world. The art in it’s entirety is a lifelong journey, but any student can become proficient in a number of these skills in just a few years.

INSTRUCTORS

Warrior Quest is very proud of it’s high ranking instructors. Most have studied at the Hombu Dojo for over a decade and have chosen to take on the obligation of maintaining the clan by passing on the knowledge to new initiates.

Kenshi DARYL ROLANDO
Mr. Rolando began training in the Kurai Kotori system in 1983 and has walked the path ever since. The highest ranking warrior in the clan, he was given the title of “Kenshi,” or “Sword Master” because of his resolute dedication to that aspect of training.
Kemuri sensei BRIAN PARCHMAN
Mr. Parchman is the embodiment of warrior-hood. A strong physical tactician combined with an analytical mind that is capable of deciphering technique with flawless efficiency. In 2006, Mr. Parchman was honored by being chosen as the successor to the Kurai Kotori clan.
Tenken sensei CHRIS RHOADS
Mr. Rhoads is a powerful practitioner that began training in the mid 90’s under the tutelage of Daryl Rolando. Equally skilled in the both unarmed combat and weaponry arts, he has proven to be one of the talented and dedicated warriors to grace the Warrior Quest training hall.
Jigoku Neko sensei LAUREN MELONE
Ms. Melone began her apprenticeship (jiki deshi) under Mr. Grove in 2003. She has shown great tenacity in her quest for knowledge and has dedicated herself to teaching children the art of the Ninja in an effort to build future generations of strong, confident warriors.
Unagi Saru sensei JUSTIN MCQUEEDE
Mr. McQueede has trained in the Kurai Kotori system since 1998 and is acknowledged for his amazing flexibility and strength. In 2006 he was given the honor of becoming the Chunin (clan organizer) and oversees the students during their daily training activities.
