BASIC CONCEPTS OF YOTSU GUMI

Inside hand position -

This is when the hands are securing the breastplate (do-maru) at either the collar or armpit (Fig. 02). The primary grappling maneuver is the push/pull concept. The warrior uses the inside position to either push the opponent back (Fig. 03), or pull the opponent forward (Fig. 04).

Outside hand position -

This is when the hands are securing the shoulder guards (sode) or the arms (Fig. 05). The primary grappling maneuver it the pull/turn concept. The warrior uses the outside position to either pull the opponent toward them (Fig. 06), or turn them by pulling on the shoulder guards or arms (Fig. 07).
