OUTSIDE POSITION TECHNIQUES

OUTSIDE TECHNIQUE #1 - Hiki Otoshi - Pulling Down (turn/pull)

The Samurai lifts his right leg to execute a knee strike to the Ninja’s mid-section. The Ninja pulls on the Samurai’s left shoulder guard as he turns into the attack. This motion robs the knee strike of any power and unbalances the Samurai’s weight onto their lead leg. The Ninja then reverses the motion and pulls on the Samurai’s right shoulder guard to throw him to the ground. The Ninja then mounts the Samurai, draws a Yoroi Doshi and thrusts downward into the throat (Fig. 26-34).

OUTSIDE TECHNIQUE #2- Yoko Wakare - Side Splitting (pull/turn)

The Ninja secures an outside grappling position. The Samurai reaches down to draw their sword. The Ninja immediately pulls on the Samurai’s right arm as he backpedals to hinder the draw. The Ninja then executes a fast leg transition in order to apply a side-splitting throw. The Samurai falls to the ground, unable to unsheathe their weapon. The Ninja immediately draws a Yoroi Doshi and thrusts it into the Samurai’s ribcage via the unarmored area beneath the arm (fig. 35-43).
