Shinobi Zukin
Shroud of the Stealer-in

Chapter Selection: [PREVIOUS] 1 2 3 4 5 6 [NEXT]

KNOT TECHNIQUES

There are four knot tying methods that enhance the shinobi zukin’s fighting techniques. The first knot is called the Chu-zukin Musubi, or “Center Knot”. A large single knot is made in the center of the cloth after it is folded. This center knot is then pulled tight so that it is as firm as possible. The center knot is used to enhance chokes and pressure techniques and can also be used as a striking device.

The Saki-zukin Musubi or “Tip knots” are small knots tied at each end of the cloth. These knots can be used to apply whipping attacks, but they also enhance ones ability to grip the ends of the weapon.

The Ishi-zukin musubi, or “Stone knot” is created by putting a small river stone (smooth) in the tip and tying it up so that it forms a weighted end. This provides ample weight to the weapons tip so that powerful striking techniques can be applied.

GRIPPING TECHNIQUES

The first method of gripping the shroud is called O-Yubi Nigiri, or “Thumb grip”. This is accomplished by gripping the ends of the shinobi zukin, focusing on applying pressure between the thumb and palm. A small tail (shippo) should extend out the little finger side of the hand.

The next method of gripping the shinobi zukin is called the Ko-Yubi Nigiri, or “Little finger grip”. This grip is done by holding the tips of the mask in-between the little finger and ring finger with the tail (shippo) pointing toward the palm. The hand is then turns over and grips the main length of the mask. This grip locks the mask in place and allows for a great deal of pressure to be applied with locks and chokes without fear of the mask slipping out of the grip. The fists are also solidified a bit with this grip, so punching skills are also enhanced.

The last method of gripping the shinobi zukin is the Ketsugo Nigiri, or “Combination grip”. This grip is created by applying a little finger grip with the right hand and a thumb grip with the left. This is the primary grip used during flailing techniques.
