Shinobi Zukin
Shroud of the Stealer-in

Chapter Selection: [PREVIOUS] 1 2 3 4 5 6 [NEXT]

WRAPPING TECHNIQUES

There are two methods of using the zukin as a hand-wrap to protect the knuckles while condensing the hand to make it harder. The first wrap is called the Kurumi Muteki Kobushi, or “Invincible fist wrap”. This wrap begins in the thumb-grip position. The zukin is then wrapped around the fore fist (tightening the fingers together). It is then wrapped around the fore fist a second time (covering the uppermost knuckles). The zukin is then wrapped around the back of the hand and back through the palm.

The next wrap is the Kurumi Katai Musubi, or the “Tight knot wrap”. This wrap begins in a little thumb grip with a zukin that has a center knot. The zukin is wrapped around a fore fist in a fashion that places the knot on the center of the knuckles. A tail (shippo) will extend out of the thumb-side of the fist.

FIGHTING POSTURES

As with all weapons, fighting postures are an integral part of shinobi zukin combat techniques. There are four fundamental postures. The Earth Dragon (Donryu no kamae) is designed to hold ground. The Ninja prepares the fist for attack and patiently waits for an opponent to enter into striking range. The Water Dragon (Mizuryu no kamae) is used to draw the opponent in. Fast snapping attacks, flailing strikes and choking techniques await any who dare to oppose the Water Dragon. The Fire Dragon (Hiryu no kamae) is a position from which advancing flails are applied. The Fire Dragon is relentless and overwhelms the opponent with non-stop attacks. The Wind Dragon (Kazeryu no kamae) stands open, ready to entangle incoming attacks to control and immobilize.
